Chamber Series "Personally"

A musical Mother's Day present from the concert hall Great Amber to all mothers on their special day. The celebration program reveals and introduces listeners to a rare, delicate, ancient yet contemporary musical instrument – the harp.

In the concert program, the internationally-acclaimed Berlin-based Swiss harpist Joel von Lerber plays a solo program and introduces the audience to the lively, timbre-rich musical instrument and a virtuoso repertoire for the harp. Latvian harpist Dārta Tisenkopfa is a special guest at the concert.

The concert is opened by works for the harp composed by Henriette Renié, Nino Rota, and Guillaume Connesson, followed by the opportunity for listeners to hear works by famous composers, such as Franz Liszt and Bedřich Smetana, arranged for the harp. One of Joel’s most prominent interpretations, which listeners of the recording will also hear, is a fantasy on a theme from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin by harpist Ekaterina Walter-Kühne. Thanks to the special sound created by the harp, this moving piece gains intensity and depth. At the conclusion of the program, Joel is joined on stage by harpist Dārta Tisenkopfa to perform the iconic “Grand Duo” by Welsh composer, professor and master harpist John Thomas.

“In Lerber’s hands, the harp sounds truly dreamy, and his forceful touch creates a brilliant and charming gamma of timbre at the same time.”

Joel von Lerber is the winner of many international competitions and a unique musician who captures audiences in the entire world with his expressive mastery of the harp and the special sound he creates. From a harp wunderkind who started showing interest in this unusual instrument at the young age of four, Joel has grown to become one of the most trending names in the harp world. His repertoire includes such eras as Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and the genres of impressionism and contemporary music. He has completed bachelor’s studies at the City of Basel Music Academy with excellence, as well as two master’s study programs – at the Zurich University of the Arts and Hanns Eisler College in Berlin. Joel von Lerber frequently plays solo concerts in Switzerland and Germany; he has also played with various orchestras and chamber music collectives all over Europe.

Dārta Tisenkopfa is a musician at the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra since 2019. She also plays shows as a soloist and chamber musician. The young musician has done her bachelor’s and master’s studies in Italy, where, in 2018, she completed her master’s studies in harp at the Conservatory Arrigo Boito of Parma. She has been recognized in several international competitions, collaborated with the Orchestra Regionale Emilia-Romagnia as a solo artist, and played with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
